BIDEN ADMINISTRATION PRESSURED HEALTH GROUPS TO REMOVE AGE REQUIREMENTS FOR IRREVERSIBLE TRANSGENDER SURGERIES, PUBERTY BLOCKERS, AND HORMONE INJECTIONS:

Newly unsealed emails show that top officials within the Biden Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services sought to influence the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to eliminate age minimums for transgender surgeries and hormone injections from their guidelines for standards of care.

The original draft, released in late 2021, recommended age minimums of “14 for hormonal treatments, 15 for mastectomies, 16 for breast augmentation or facial surgeries, and 17 for genital surgeries or hysterectomies,” according to the New York Times. The Biden Administration pushed for the removal of these minimum age recommendations, advocating for young kids to have access to these damaging procedures. The American Academy of Pediatrics, which represents 67,000 U.S. pediatricians, also said they would not endorse WPATH’s guidelines if they set age minimums.

In addition to the Biden Administration’s push for minors to have access to transgender treatments, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advocated for children to undergo these harmful and mutilating surgeries. AAP, which has partnered with WPATH on many issues, colluded with WPATH to find ways around child sex change bans. The AAP and WPATH continue to harm children by perpetuating the lie that these standards of “care” such as hormone injections and difficult-to-reverse surgeries aren’t doing significant harm to children.

Alleigh Marré, executive director of the American Parents Coalition (APC), issued the following statement:

“Here we go again…the Biden administration continues to use the power of HHS to lobby against the best interests of children. We saw this throughout COVID when they sided with teacher’s unions and closed schools, and now we are seeing the administration jeopardize our kids’ physical safety by pressuring the medical establishment to encourage irreversible medicalization and gender-mutilating surgeries, at any age, contrary to data showing the mental and physical dangers of such treatments.

While many European countries have begun reversing their guidance and restricting surgical and hormonal interventions for minors, the Biden administration has taken the opposite approach by prioritizing politics over the health, safety, and futures of American kids. The efforts by HHS to remove age limitations for these irreversible procedures are shameful and do a disservice to parents who look to these organizations for data-driven recommendations regarding children’s health.

At American Parents Coalition, we believe that parents should be in the driver’s seat when it comes to their kids. Not the government, not the medical establishment, not the schools, not the media. In order for parents to make informed decisions for their kids, we need our leaders to be transparent and honest, and put politics aside and do what is best for our children.”
